Why does it cost less to graduate on time?
During the past four years, the cost of tuition has gone up at public universities across Texas an average of 5 to 10 percent a year, which means each year of school costs more than the previous year. That means graduating in four years will cost thousands of dollars less than graduating in six years.

In addition, UNT students can participate in the Texas Tuition Rebate program which returns $1,000 to all qualifying students who graduate on time and within the state’s requirements for earning a degree. Learn more about the Tuition Rebate program at http://essc.unt.edu/registrar/$1000rebateinfo.htm.

And, according to a recent report released by the federal government, a person with a bachelor’s degree earns about $23,000 more per year than someone with only a high school diploma. Over a lifetime, that usually translates into about $1 million more earned by someone with a bachelor’s degree.

So graduating sooner means your education costs less and you’re able to earn more sooner.

What if I can’t take more than 12 hours a semester?

You don’t have to take more than 12 hours, it’s just that doing so will help you graduate faster and save you money. It’s most important to us that you earn your college education. UNT offers a great education for a reasonable cost, and even taking 12 hours a semester (especially if you also can take some hours in summer school) is a very good value.

What else can I do to finish my degree sooner?
UNT offers many summer school sessions of varying lengths so you can choose how much you want to study during the summer. Taking just 3 to 6 hours for two summers will significantly impact how quickly you graduate, especially if you also take 15 hours during each fall and spring semester.
