Important Tips to Apply for Financial Aid
- Be accepted for admission by the university and enrolled in a degree program. Transient students are not eligible for financial aid.
- Complete the 2007-2008 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Renewal FAFSA. The Priority Date to submit the 2007-2008 FAFSA for summer aid consideration is February 15, 2008. The 2007-2008 FAFSA will be available through June 30, 2008. Applications are available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
- In addition to the 2007-2008 FAFSA, students must complete the Summer Application for Financial Aid online at http://my.unt.edu. The application deadline is July 11, 2008.
- Visit our office if you have questions about your summer aid eligibility. Additional information regarding summer financial aid can be found online at www.unt.edu/finaid.
Important Reminders
- Register early for summer classes!
- Check “My To Do List” on myUNT at myUNT and your EagleMail daily to verify and finalize any pending items. The later a student submits their FAFSA and/or Summer Application, the later their funds will be available. Students who file a late FAFSA application will be expected to pay their own expenses and wait until their funds arrive to be reimbursed.
- Awards can be “accepted” or “declined” on myUNT at myUNT.
- Grant funding is limited for the summer. Apply early!
- Maximum annual Stafford loan eligibility received during Fall/Spring always reduces or eliminates summer Stafford loan eligibility.
- Check our website regularly for news and important updates including UNT’s financial aid Priority Dates for Fall/Spring 2008-2009.

Payment/Disbursement of Financial Aid Funds
- Payment of financial aid funds to undergraduate students will occur once the student establishes half-time (6 undergraduate hours) attendance.
- Payment of financial aid funds to graduate students will occur once the student establishes half-time (4 graduate hours) attendance.
- State and institutional grant funds will be disbursed in one disbursement on the 1st class day of the session in which the student establishes half-time attendance.
- Pell grant payments will be made according to summer session/term individual enrollment status.
- Concurrent Enrollment Agreements are not processed during the summer term.
- Loan funds will be disbursed in one disbursement. Our office will request the disbursement from the lender on the 1st class day of the session in which the student establishes half-time attendance.
- Following the request of loan funds from the lender, students can expect actual disbursement of these funds to be posted into their tuition and fee account in 3-4 business days.
- If you have been awarded your maximum Stafford loan eligibility during the Fall/Spring 2007-2008 terms, you will not be eligible for loan funds during the Summer 2008 term.
- Dropping courses to less than half-time attendance prior to disbursement of financial aid will result in the student becoming ineligible for ALL non-disbursed aid.
For Your Information
- If the total amount of your Anticipated Aid does not cover your full tuition and fee balance, arrangements for the difference must be made in Student Accounting and University Cashiering Services to prevent your classes from being dropped. Anticipated Aid is: (1) Scholarships the student has been awarded, and/or (2) financial aid the student has "Accepted" on my UNT. Anticipated aid does NOT include Work Study or Parent (PLUS) Loans. If the total of your Anticipated Aid does not cover your full balance, payment for the difference must be made on your student account to prevent your classes from being dropped. These payments can be made online on MyUNT.
- If you have registered for summer classes and decide not to attend, you MUST notify BOTH Student Financial Aid and Scholarships AND the Registrar's Office immediately. If you fail to officially withdraw, you may owe a repayment of your financial aid funds to the program(s) from which they were awarded (thus owing a debt to the university).
- If you participate in the eRefund process, Student Accounting and University Cashiering Services will electronically transmit refunds to your bank account. You should log onto myUNT to verify that your tuition and fees have been paid before your appropriate deadline.
- Financial aid eligibility is based on your undergraduate or graduate career and academic program. If you graduate or are admitted to a graduate program prior to the summer term, your aid eligibility will be re-evaluated. Please refer to Important Information to determine eligibility for specific academic programs with limited financial aid eligibility.
- If a scholarship check is sent directly to you, bring it to Student Financial Aid and Scholarships for posting and disbursement before the payment deadline of the summer session(s) in which you enroll.
