UNT Meritorious Scholarship for National Merit Finalists

What does the UNT Meritorious Scholarship cover?

  • Tuition and mandatory fees
  • Room and board on-campus (double occupancy) with seven-day meal plan
  • Textbook expenses up to $500 per semester

What is the length of the scholarship?

The scholarship is renewable up to three additional, consecutive academic years (excluding summers) or until the completion of your undergraduate degree, whichever comes first.

What are the requirements to receive the UNT Meritorious Scholarship?

  • Become a National Merit Finalist
  • Designate UNT as your number one school of choice with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation by the last business day in May
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Only students that appear on the National Merit Scholarship Corporation rosters can be offered this scholarship
  • Enroll in HNRS 1000 (a special one credit hour Honors seminar that is specially designed for holders of this scholarship) during your first semester. For details on this seminar or additional information on the University Honors College, contact the Director of University Honor College, Dr. Gloria Cox, at (940) 565-3305.

(If you receive other scholarships or need-based aid, your total UNT Meritorious Scholarship will be adjusted so that your financial aid and scholarship package will not exceed the total cost of attendance established by Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.)

What are the renewal requirements for the UNT Meritorious Scholarship?

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 at the conclusion of each semester; and
  • Enroll in and successfully complete at least 12 hours at the University of North Texas during each long semester (fall and spring); and
  • Maintain active membership in the University Honors College. Your UNT Meritorious Scholarship includes membership in the University Honors College, which entitles you to enroll in honors classes and to participate in the many programs and activities sponsored by Honors.

An important stipulation of your scholarship is the requirement to successfully complete at least six honors hours at UNT each academic year. In your first semester, you will also be required to successfully complete HNRS 1000, a special one credit hour honors seminar that is specially designed for holders of this scholarship.

Note: If you have fewer than 24 hours remaining in your degree program, you may divide the remaining hours as evenly as possible between the fall and spring semesters.

*Funding for this program is limited.
