Emerald Eagle Scholars Program
Beginning Fall 2007, this new student success program allows talented undergraduate students from families with adjusted gross incomes below $40,000 to earn bachelor’s degrees without the cost of tuition and fees getting in the way.
Emerald Eagle Scholar Eligibility
To be eligible, you must meet the following requirements prior to the Fall 2008 semester:
- have completed all documents required by the Admissions Office before April 15, 2008
- have completed the 2008-2009 FAFSA before April 15, 2008
- be a new entering freshman (transfer students are not eligible)
- be a Texas resident
- be a member of a family whose adjusted gross income does not exceed $40,000
- be a dependent student as determined by federal financial aid requirements
- be eligible to receive a federal Pell grant through UNT
- sign a statement of your commitment to this exceptional program
- attend a UNT freshman orientation
After enrolling as an Emerald Eagle Scholar you must:
- enroll in at least 15 hours in each long semester (fall and spring)
- complete at least 30 hours in each academic year
- commit to active engagement on our campus through completion of 1 of 3 paths
- make academic progress each semester with at least a 2.5 cumulative UNT g.p.a.
- set a goal of bachelor degree completion in four years or less
- work in a campus job 10 hours a week, or complete the Career Center Alternate Plan
As an Emerald Eagle Scholar you will benefit from our commitment to your success:
- your tuition and mandatory fees will be paid based on the average cost of 15 credit hours per semester for eight consecutive fall and spring terms
- you will connect with our campus and the richness of the university experiences through various programs, seminars, mentoring, research and academic enrichment designed to guide you to success
- you will be part of an elite group of students participating in this outstanding program
- UNT will assist with placement in campus work that will help build connections that are time-tested shown to help students be successful

Though we do not expect to change the guidelines of the program, the details of the program are subject to change depending upon State of Texas legislation, funding availability, federal regulations and other factors that are deemed necessary by the University of North Texas.
