Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan and Hinson Hazlewood College Student Loan (HHCSP)

UNT Priority Dates
Priority dates are June 1/October 1/April 1. Allow two to four weeks for total processing between school and lender. Limited availability of funds for HHCSP.
Selection Criteria
Based on established financial need. Requires half-time enrollment. Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirements must be met. HHCSP awarded to Texas residents only.
Continued Eligibility
Students must maintain at least half-time enrollment, continue to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirements and continue to demonstrate financial need.
Amount of Awards
Based on established financial need. The maximum awards per academic year are:
$3,500 for the first year of academic study (Effective for Stafford Loans disbursed on or after July 1, 2007)
$4,500 for the second year of study (Effective for Stafford Loans disbursed on or after July 1, 2007)
$5,500 for subsequent undergraduate study
$8,500 for graduate students.
Post-baccalaureate students are limited to undergraduate annual loan limits. Maximum aggregate amounts are $23,000 for undergraduates and $65,500 for graduates. The graduate limit includes Stafford Loans received for undergraduate study.
Payment
Money is applied to student account or paid by check once each semester. However, lenders may choose alternative disbursement methods.
Repayment
Loan funds must be repaid with interest. Repayment begins six months after graduation or the last day of half-time enrollment. Minimum repayment of $600 per year, not to exceed 10 years. Loans disbursed between July 1, 1998 - June 30, 2006 have variable interest rate determined by the Federal Government or by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for HHCSP. Loans on or after July 1, 2006 have fixed rates.
