Student Borrowers

The University of North Texas and Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation (TG) have teamed up to provide you a Web-based way of applying for a Federal Stafford Loan called TG Loans By Web. The following will guide you step-by-step through completing and submitting an application.

Overview of the process for student loans:

  • You will not receive a loan until you have completed an application through Loans By Web. If you have difficulty with this process, contact TG at (800) 845-6267.
  • First time UNT borrowers may need to complete the online entrance counseling.
  • If necessary, download the free Adobe Acrobat software needed to print your master promissory note (MPN) and Borrower's Rights and Responsibilities.
  • Be prepared to provide two references including address and phone number information.
  • When selecting a lender, you may have the option to electronically sign an MPN. Some lenders allow you to use your Department of Education personal identification number or PIN. If you do not know your PIN, you may obtain it at www.pin.ed.gov.
  • Do not send signed MPNs to your school. Your school will be notified electronically.

Completing the process:

  1. Click on the Loans By Web link and login using your SSN and birth date.
  2. Select Complete a loan award , then choose an award.
  3. Entrance counseling : First time UNT borrowers may need to complete online entrance counseling. To do so, click the Entrance Counseling link on the left. Once finished with counseling, keep the confirmation number verifying completion for your records.
  4. Update your personal information.
  5. Enter reference information, including the address and phone numbers of two references.
  6. Select your lender. A list of UNT's preferred lenders has been provided for you. Lenders that accept electronic signature are designated with an asterisk.
  7. Review and submit your loan award information. Be sure to complete all of your loan awards if you have more than one. (Click Back at the bottom of the screen to make changes.)
  8. Print the MPN for a guaranteed loan or have TG print and mail an MPN to you. You may click E-Sign to sign MPNs for lenders that accept electronic signatures.
  9. Click Close.
  10. Sign, date and mail one copy of your printed MPN to your lender (You may skip this step if you E-Signed ). Your lender will not release funds for your loan until it has received the signed MPN from you.
