Troy Johnson is Vice Provost at the University of North Texas, which annually enrolls more than 36,000 students. Dr. Johnson is a leader both on- and off-campus through his work building access to success pathways in higher education. He has overseen multiple successful TRiO and other targeted grant programs, and he is Texas’ only 3 time author-recipient of the Star Award for Closing the Gaps, given to programs ensuring that more students enroll and complete college degrees. Over the past few years alone he has brought more than $4 million dollars in grants and external funding for scholarships and academic support to students at his university. As recent chair of the state-wide Enrollment Services Efficiency Committee, he led the move to unify admission and financial aid application dates among universities and helped guide successful efforts to reduce redundant reporting and regulatory burdens. Dr. Johnson has served on state and national committees and last month gave invited testimony to the U.S. federal government’s Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance. He has worked in both California and Texas and is research professor in the department of economics. His research and papers cover topics ranging from higher education economics and workplace sexual harassment to transfer student success.
