Transfer Students

Unlike students who apply for financial aid for both the Fall/Spring semesters, transfer students require a different set of steps in order to process their financial aid. This page has been specifically designed to give step by step information on the financial aid and scholarship process for transfer students.

For transfer students who have NOT filled out a FAFSA

Step 1: The FAFSA will determine your eligibility for federal, state and institutional financial aid programs including grants, work-study, and loans. You can complete your FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. If you have already submitted your FAFSA, but did not list UNT as a school of choice you can log into www.fafsa.ed.gov and add UNT with our school code 003594.

Step 2: Be sure to log into the Student Portal at http://my.unt.edu to review your My To Do List. If you have outstanding checklist items, you need to submit any required paperwork to our office as soon as possible to complete your financial aid file.

Step 3: Contact the financial aid office of your current institution. Request the spring portion of your financial aid awards for the 2007-2008 academic year be canceled. This is a very important step that can help reduce unnecessary delays with your financial aid awards.

Step 4: We will be able to begin to determine your financial aid awards for the spring once you have been officially admitted into UNT. Please be aware that due to the timing of your admittance into UNT and the scheduling of financial aid processes, your financial aid awards may not be available before the Spring 2008 payment deadline. Payment arrangements can be made to secure your classes while your financial aid package is being finalized. Please visit the Student Accounting and University Cashiering Services website at http://essc.unt.edu/saucs for more information about payment options.

Step 5: Once your financial aid awards have been determined, a financial aid counselor will review the award package. It will be important for you to continue to monitor your My To Do List on myUNT for outstanding checklist items during this time. Please submit any required paperwork to our office as soon as possible to ensure timely processing of your file.

Step 6: A counselor will determine that all checklist items have been completed and that the award package is accurate. You will receive a Financial Aid Notification in the mail detailing your award package for the spring. You will also be able to access this information on myUNT. You will be able to review each award and accept or decline each award. Further steps may be required depending on the awards you choose to accept.
