General Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for financial aid you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen
  • Be accepted for admission by the university and enrolled in a degree program
  • Not be in default on any Title IV loan (Federal Perkins Loan or Federal Stafford Loan) or owe a refund or repayment on educational funds received at any institution
  • Be registered with the Selective Service if you are a male who is at least 18 years old and born after December 31, 1959. Male eligible non-citizens who are permanent residents are required to register if they are between the ages of 18 and 25 at the time of becoming a permanent resident.
  • Enroll and maintain at least a half-time class load at UNT and demonstrate satisfactory academic progress toward a degree (see Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirements for more info). Note: Your Federal Pell Grant will be calculated on actual enrolled hours, including students enrolled in a student teaching program.
  • Not be receiving aid at another college or university simultaneously.
  • Use all funds received through financial aid for educational purposes
